How to remove Firefox disc icon
I uninstalled Firefox last week because I was having computer problems (fans) after the latest update. Just a coincidence I guess because I continued having the same problems after uninstalling, so I reinstalled it today. However, I am unable to remove a square orange disc? icon from my desktop. I can only remove it if I quit Firefox. After opening Firefox again, I not only get the icon back, but I also get the install instruction box again, ie...... large box with the blue and orange Firefox icon dictating to put it in my application folder. If I do that, Firefox re-installs again, and I start all over again. I restarted my computer hoping that would help, but it did not. If it is harmless, ok, but it was never there for the many years I've used Firefox and it's a pain to have to click out the box and also have the icon on my desktop all the time.

It sounds like you are clicking on the stub installer to launch Firefox after you have already installed it. Please remove any stub installer after you have already added the icon to the Applications Folder.
You can then pin it to your doc so that the stub installer no longer will be the launch icon.

I reset the Macs SMC and it took care of the issue. But......I've had problems with Firefox since the last update and even un-installed it then re-installed it. It's just not running well and freezing constantly. I keep it "closed" now and have been using Safari exclusively. I plan on installing a new op system on the Mac soon and so I'm hoping that takes care of the issues. I use Firefox 90% of the time normally. I prefer it to Safari. - Thanks for the reply though.
