I am using an extended display with my Windows 8 laptop. I configured it so that when I am plugged into a VGA cord, screen 1 is the second monitor and screen 2 is the laptop. Since I set this up, Firefox does not remember cookies for some sites i.e. it keeps asking me if I would like to share my location with a website I go to frequently.

Also, I have a set of pinned tabs that I use everyday and after reboot Firefox does not always reopen with my pinned tabs open. I would say its 50-50 whether or not the pinned tabs open back up.

There has also been an issue when a play a video on screen 1 (second monitor) and there will be no sound. If I move the browser over to screen 2 (laptop) the sound will start to play.

Is there a setting in Windows or Firefox that can fix these issues?

Please ensure that you do not have a third party program installed that will clear you cookies and pinned tabs.

Also ensure the that Clear history when Firefox closes option under the Firefox Options, Privacy tab is not selected.

Some add-ons also have been know to do this. Ensure that none of your installed add-ons perform this action.
To check, disable all add-ons (not Safe Mode).

Please report back soon.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
