THE FIREFOX THAT I HAD BEFORE DID NOT HAVE ADDS, MSN AND BING, AND THAT IS THE REASON THE I USED FIREFOX AND LIKE IT VERY MUCH THAT WAY. IF I CANNOT GET RID OF MSN THEN I WILL GO BACK TO INTERNET EXPLORE, IF I'M TO HAVE ADDS THEN I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE INTERNET EXPLORE.

Have you tried changing your home page to something other than MSN? This article has tips on that: How to set the home page.

Does MSN pop up in other places?

I noticed that Norton has changed your address bar search provider to Ask. To switch it back to Google, you can use this extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Any improvement?

By the way, writing in all caps on forums is considered shouting. You don't need to shout.

Due to the fact that MSN was very mysteriously placed on my computer, I will let my son delete it for me. He said that no one is supposed to be forced to use it!!!

Hi law5soccer, could you describe where MSN shows up? For example:

  • Home page changed to MSN
  • Search bar now shows results on MSN
  • MSN toolbar
  • New tab shows MSN

Often these changes are caused by an extension. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Sometimes you need to restart Firefox to effectively disable an extension. There will be a link above the disable button in that case, and you can complete your work on the tab and click one of those links as the last step.

Some settings also may be pushed into Firefox from a settings file that overrides your preferences every time you restart Firefox. This article describes how to root out a user.js file if you have one: How to fix preferences that won't save.

If you prefer to use the built-in Firefox home page and Google as your search engine, this add-on will reset those to their default values in one click: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/searchreset/ (but cleaning up the other issues may be needed to have the change stick).
