when I log on to the internet and type in key words in the search bar, nothing happens when I click the search button. Suddenly my search button is not working.

hello jamielt63, does it work when you choose a different search engine in the searchbar?

hello Phillip, The tool bar search box works fine, no matter which search engine I choose, the Mozilla home page search box is the one that is not responding when I click search. I have tried changing search engines but still no response.

in this case please see if installing the search reset addon (a restart of the browser is necessary afterwards) can resolve the issue: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.

Check the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

  • browser.search.defaultenginename

Currently selected search engine:

  • browser.search.selectedEngine

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
