How do I permanently get rid of the bar at the top of the screen asking if I want to update plugins?
It's a yellow bar that pops up with almost every internet search. Until a few days ago the bar never appeared. I have no idea what triggered it suddenly appearing when I'm on the internet.

You can set the Boolean pref plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin to true on the about:config page.
I don't know anything about computers. How do I get to the config screen?
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
- Use the Filter bar at the top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
- Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
- Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
- Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
- Preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: String, Integer, Boolean
