Latest Firefox update is corrupt. Firefox will not open after update is installed.

A more likely cause is security software that protects files and prevent both the update of those files as well as the deletion when uninstalling, leaving you with a setup that doesn't work unless you install the Firefox version that contains an exact copy of those files (so even if the install fails you still have those files). Some security software can be very persistent in that matter.

Hey wwratcliff,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

There is also a lot of useful stuff in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) Knowledge Base article. Since you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out this article as well.

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for responding Matt. No, safe mode doesn't help. The Firefox crashes articles also don't help. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. Same crash report window comes up.

For example: bp-a9dad640-a246-4c74-8f01-63d8e2120201

I'm wondering if I need to take apart app data and delete all vestiges of Firefox. All because of the upgrade they sent out today. Wow, great quality control.

I am facing the exact same issue, and was forced to restore version 9.01 to regain Firefox functionality. 9.01 continues to work without issue. I have made sure all pertinent software is up to date. Unless I come across a solution to this issue, I will not update to Firefox 10.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Thanks Cor-el, The problem has been resolved by deleting all folders where Firefox left files, first on upgrade and then again at uninstall. The v 10 upgrade apparently leaves files behind that cause crashes. Once everything but the profile was cleared, v 10 installed properly and runs. Thanks for your help.
