Stop private browsing and clear recent history are both greyd out and I can do neither.
Under the tools menu, both 'stop private browsing', and 'clear recent history' are greyed out and I can do neither.

Looks like you might be having an issue with a corrupt Places.sqlite, which stores your history and bookmarks.
