Issue

Firefox is having problems with certain web sites

Description

Yesterday, firefox updated itself automatically. The "what's new" screen suggested that I update Flash immediately, so I did. I had a little trouble. I eventually uninstalled Flash and re-installed with the latest version, but it is now up to date. Now flash videos will not play properly in full screen. The picture will freeze for a few seconds with the audio still playing, the screen will go blank, then the video will restart from where the audio was when the screen went blank. Sometimes Flash will crash completely and I will have to reload the page to restart the video, even not full screen. Other times I get an error message that my video driver stopped working. I have checked and my video driver is up to date.

Hello Aaron.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

I disabled all of my add-ons and and am having the same problems.

If you are having a problem with a specific add-on (Flash, for example), you need to contact its author for support. Shockwave Flash is developed by Adobe: http://www.adobe.com/support/

I have the same problem, Linux OS firefox 3.6.4 with latest flash. When I rolled back firefox, but left flash to newest version, issue was resolved. So this DOES have something to do with latest Firefox update. Please investigate.

Levan, if Firefox 3.6.4 works ok without Flash but it doesn't work ok with Flash, then it's a problem with Flash. Please contact Adobe for support (if you are using their Flash reader, of course).

Installed Flash 10.1 on Firefox 3.6.3 and some flash videos go to a blank white screen when you try to go to full screen. Same behavior with Flash 10.1 on Firefox 3.6.4,

Firefox 3.6.4 with Flash 10.0 will play a flash video in full screen, but none of the controls work in full screen.

Doesn't anybody test this stuff before they release it.

Firefox 3.6.3 with Flash 10.0 works fine.

I'm having the same problem, since the latest Firefox update. And all of my other stuff is up to date. Aaaarrrgh!!

more options

Please make sure your Flash plugin is up to date: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

If you're having issues with 3.6.4 and the Flash plugin, please take a look at Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again and increase the timeout as indicated.

I updated to 3.6.4 and when I went to NetFlix to watch the next show of a series, it said something like

Installation complete, restart your browser.

I restarted browser, same problem. Restarted comp. Same problem.

I updated Adobe Flash 10.1, still same problem. But able to watch some vids on other sites, but full screen gave me the big blank white screen with audio only, had to click around in the dark ( so to speak) to find the minimize button.

I did a System Restore to before the Firefox and Adobe updates.

I then did not update Firefox as recommended and went to NetFlix and wellah, i can view the movies again. And Full Screen is fine.

I then experimented and updated Firefox only, went to NetFlix and got same msg with no viewable shows.

So did a System Restore once more.

Staying at 3.6.3 for a while longer until I know I can watch my movies.

I don't own a TV, so this is my only form of an occasional escape.

I do hope this is figured out soon.

With what I have done, it seems to be Firefox, Not Flash.

Good Luck to us all.

@ Larry You seem to be having a problem with Flash, specifically with the latest update to 10.1. You need to contact Adobe for support.

@ Marnie J Please read my original post about this issue. I hope it helps you fix the problem, or at least understand what's going on.

Pedro, you need to contact Adobe if you are having problems with Flash like you seem to be having.

You, Morbus, seem to be either an idiot, or a troll.

Mozilla changed something, and flash stopped working. The problem could be with either Firefox or Flash. Let's assume the problem really is the pluggin, the investigation still starts with Firefox. What changed? Why is Flash having issues? That is an entirely appropriate question to ask here. With that answer in tow, it will be much easier to ask Adobe developers to fix it.

That doesn't mean that Adobe should not be contacted, only that valuable information can be gathered and discussed here. You do want valuable information to be gathered and discussed, don't you?

(Accusations that the update was untested are probably unfounded, but this is exactly what that would feel like. It's impossible to test in every possible configuration, I know.)

before you fullscreen right click and go to the settings. Untick the 'enable harware acceleration' box and close settings. Apparently its something to do with old video cards

As JYOuyang suggested, I checked and my firefox says my flash plugin is up to date. I also incerased the timeout to 30 sec.

My symptoms have changed but I'm still having problems. Flash completely crashed in Hulu, not just full screen problems. It did that this morning both before and after increasing the flash timeout. However, Comedy central now seems to be running fine after the timeout increase.

Someone suggested turning off hardware acceleration. I had to do that with the last version of firefox and flash, so I already knew about that. It's been off all along. I did try leaving it on too, but neither worked.

I have exactly the same problem like Aaron. It begin with the FF Update two days ago. The full screen sites work normal with Opera and IE. Only in new FF they are frozen.
