How to edit a forum post
This is not really a Thunderbird, it's about use of all SUMO forums, but unfortunately asking a question about SUMO is not allowed; one must choose a product, so I chose the product (TB) for which I have an ongoing concern. The question is simple and basic: How to edit a forum post?
My example for this concern is a post in another thread, where I included a link to another page, as well as attaching a PNG file which did not show in the Preview (but did show in "Uploaded images"). Frustrated that I could not get my attachment to show before clicking "Submit", I added this note about the attachment:
"[which I see in "Uploaded images", but not in "Preview Reply"; I trust it will be in the final rendering]"
In the end, when the post showed a few hours later (after moderation), it included the attachment. So now, as that note has no relevance and only adds weight to the post, I would like to either:
- delete the note from the post, or
- contact the moderator [James] to ask to have it removed.
But I can find no info about how to do either. Is this SUMO system, which replaces the mailing lists, really so clumsy that there is no way to address either of those basic tasks?
Finally - bonus questions -
- As I write this, I notice there is no "Preview" button to see how the post looks before "Submit". What determines when Preview is available?
- Is this the best way to questions about support forum operation, not products?

Your post is puzzling. When the attachment appears on being selected, that is your assurance that it will appear. And there are three dots to right of post after it appears with the option to edit the post. Also, as the originator of a post, there is a 'solved' button that allows you to have the post removed.

Thank you, David!
Color me sheepish: I don't know why I did not notice the three dots and ask "What does this do?" Obviously, I don't do subtle. Not the first time my stupidity has been exposed, but I do regret the forum noise.
A follow-up, please: You say, "When the attachment appears on being selected, ..." -- by "selected", do you mean when it shows under "Uploaded Images"? (I thought the "Preview" was supposed to preview the post exactly as it will appear, including attachments.)
Also, is there a protocol (or standard way or place) for asking a question about SUMO forum operation, rather than products?
Thanks again. I want to click that "Solved the problem" button as soon as I have this sorted.
Yes, if a graphic of image to upload appears prior to submitting, that's your assurance that it will appear. And asking us why SUMO works the way it does is like asking a clerk why the CEO makes certain decisions; we're here to provide support, not decide on the medium to use. To discuss topics and ideas, you should consider the url of connect dot mozilla dot org.
To discuss things related to support.mozilla.org site itself, it is done at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/
If you look at top and hover over Contributor Tools > Community Discussions it will lead you to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/
> "To discuss things related to support.mozilla.org site itself, it is done at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/" Thank you, James. It's interesting to compare the sites which David and you recommended:
Each has its uses, with ambiguous overlaps, as befits Mozilla's rich intellectual community. But I agree that your suggestion is explicitly for SUMO, as opposed to Connect, which has a different (but interesting) focus.
> "If you look at top and hover over Contributor Tools > Community Discussions it will lead you to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/" Yes, I noticed that before, thinking it might provide a way to leave a message for you -- but it's testimony to my stupidity that I did not immediately see how to leave a PM for you. (I do now.) IAC, David showed me how to DIY-edit that post -- pay attention to the three dots -- so I did not really need to bother you (but it's nice to know how to PM).
