Generic filename pasting images from clipboard

more options

Hi Windows 10 21h2 Firefox 100.0 When pasting images from the clipboard into a website (atlassian confluence for example) firefox uses a generic image name (grafik.png) instead of the actual filename. This started to happend a few weeks ago. I was not able to find a demo page where this can be tested, other browsers don't have this issue.

Anyone having similiar issues or an idea how to fix it?

Thanks

We are facing the same problem when we use Atlassians Confluence:

When a user tries to insert an image from a clipboard to a Confluence page while using a Firefox browser with the language set to German, it causes the image to be uploaded as "grafik.png" without any timestamps on the filename. If the user continues to add new images to the same page using the same method, all the images are updated with the last one inserted due to all files sharing the same name.

This bug brings with it unrecoverable data loss since all pages in page history are affected as well.

I have tested the problem with the Portable App Firefox ESR (Version 102.1.0), Firefox ESR 91.12.0 and Firefox 102.1.0.

Workarounds:

  • Use Google Chrome or Edge Chromium
  • Switch language settings of Firefox to English as the first language

To reproduce the problem switch the language to German as the first language.

Is there a configuration option (about:config) which switches off the translation of "image.png"?
