Windows update affecting profile settings

more options

Hi, I updated windows 10 the other day and when I launched Firefox today all of my logged in accounts were lost, my addons were disabled and needed to be reinstalled and my user settings were different as well after firefox updated. I had a pop up saying firefox was no longer my default browser despite it being marked as default in my windows settings.

Someone mentioned I could have a corrupted profile cache or something? Is there a way to recover my logins or do I just have to do it all by hand, one by one.

Thank you

Sorry to hear about this problem. Let's look for another profile folder and see whether it has your logins:

(1) Refresh => Old Firefox Data

If Firefox performed a Refresh (or "tune-up") it should have placed your old profile folder on your Windows desktop in a new folder named Old Firefox Data. Do you see anything like that?

Note that an interrupted Refresh can cause data to fall between the cracks, but you would notice the Refresh taking a long time in that case, it's wouldn't sneak up on you this way.

(2) Old Profile in the standard location

Let's check:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have any other profile(s) listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any progress so far?
