I keep getting a cryptic error message when I try to send a mass e-mail. Don't know if one e-mail is not sending, or ALL e-mails are not sending.

more options

I am trying to send a group message to about 100 recipients announcing a local Memorial Day "Virtual" Parade, so this needs to be resolved NOW.

When I hit SEND, I get a techno-geek error message telling me that Thunderbord encountered a problem and blah, blah, blah. Then it gives me a single address that, I assume, is the one causing the problem. It tells me to check the address and try again. Guessing that the address is bad, I delete it and send again. This time I get the same error message, but with a different address.

If these mails are going out to everyone except the addresses listed in the error message, I do not want to keep bombarding the others with the same e-mail over and over again. So how do I know if people are getting these e-mails? I do not want to appear inept or desperate and start contacting people individually, and this is not the type of e-mail people are necessarily going to reply to.

HELP??????

OK, thank you for explaining this clearly and non-technically, sfhowes. You have no idea how unhelpful many well-intended "tech" people can be.

My problem sort of resolved itself when the initial mass e-mail I created using Gmail earlier today FINALLY started hitting people's inboxes two hours after it was sent. Now I don't need to fight with Thunderbird anymore. In the future, I will use your advice, though.

Have a great day, and stay safe and well.

Are you sending to a mailing list, does the list name have spaces or special characters, and what is your TB version?

68.8.0 . I put together a list of addresses, separated by commas, in a Word document, then cut-and-pasted them into Thunderbird. All are highlighted in blue as if they are hot links.

Create a list of those addresses in Tbird's addressbook.

OK, let me try that.

But, assuming some of the addresses are outdated, I will probably get the same error message.

You can enter multiple addresses on one line, separated by commas, but they shouldn't appear as links, so that is probably mailto links created by copying from Word. Besides that, TB has a limit of about 60 addresses per message when they are entered separately. But a mailing list has no such limit - the limit is imposed by the mail provider, e.g. 100 or 200 recipients per message.
