What is the exact error messages?

I am finding that I cannot bookmark any site. The "star" on the "Bookmark This Page" is not working and neither is the (Ctrl + D).

Is there something I have to change to activate this option?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

This Connection Is Untrusted is sometimes caused because the computer system clock is wrong. Check the time / date / timezone settings.

The date and time is correct. I use only Microsoft for Security. I started Foxfire up in Safe mode and the problem still exists. The problem is escalated now because NO sites can be book marked.

Any help would be appreciated otherwise I will uninstall Foxfire and go back to Chrome.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

I tried the safe mode and went to a secured website (encyclopedia, webster dictionary, etc.) . I could not bookmark anything.

I used Explorer and Microsoft Edge with no problem... Definitely a problem with Firefox.

I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled (however, there must be files that are NOT removed because I got the message that it knew that Firefox was already on the computer) and I experienced the same problem with bookmarks.

Hi biznetguy, if you can't add any bookmarks, there could be a problem with the database file that stores your bookmarks and history together, which is named places.sqlite.

Is Firefox recording history normally, or is adding and deleting history also broken?

For unclear reasons, some users' database files become inaccessible or corrupted after an update.

The Troubleshooting Information page has a "Verify Integrity" button to do a little light maintenance on the Places database (where bookmarks and history are stored). You can open that using either

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Then scroll way down or use Find to search for Integrity in the Places Database section. At first, nothing will seem to happen, but then several seconds after clicking the button Firefox should report some diagnostic results below it.

If the report looks positive to you, you can exit/restart Firefox to see whether it helped. If the report indicates trouble, you could copy/paste it into a reply for comment.

The more drastic solutions are:

(A) Remove the current Places database file and have Firefox generate a new one. See: Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message

(B) Create a new profile and selectively migrate data

Steps to be provided if needed.

Okay, if restarting Firefox and Windows didn't resolve that, then try the "drastic" remedy (A) from my earlier reply.

The restart did not work.

How can I get a totally "clean" install? I followed the instructions from FireFox but, when I re-installed it knew that the install was a reinstall and not a brand new. If I could do a "clean" install, iyt would be faster than "drastic" remedy (A).

Also I did save and backed up the book marks. Either way I fix this, are these good or do I have to start all over on the bookmarks (I have html and the firefox back up files).

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

When we talk about a 'clean' reinstall, we are talking about removing the Firefox program folder first in case the program files are corrupt.

Your problem is that the places file in your profile is corrupt. You must rename the places.sqlite file so that Firefox can create a new one.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Note: Your bookmarks may be recovered from a backup file.

Hi Stan, try:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to restore your bookmark backup and test bookmarking.

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the Create a New Profile button, then click Next. Assign a name like Oct2018, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Set as default profile button below that profile, then scroll back up and click the Restart normally button. (There are some other buttons, but please ignore them.)

Firefox should exit and then start up using the new profile, which will just look brand new. Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account for the time being.

Try restoring your bookmark backup or importing your bookmark export.

Do bookmarks work any better in the new profile?

If so, options are:

(A) inhabit the new profile as is

(B) try to restore some additional data from the old profile

(C) try transplanting the new places.sqlite database (which has your bookmarks but not history) into your old profile
