hey, I have two questions:- 1. The arlier version of FF(59.0.1) used to report when a website was trying to canvass the browser; that message seems to be missing in FF 59.0.2. The message that used to get displayed was " This website (<website name>) attempted to extract HTML5 canvas data which may be used to uniquely identify your computer. Should Firefox allow this website to extract HTML5 canvas data?" This message/warning isn't showing up on Mozilla Firefox 59.0.2 after I upgraded. Could you elaborate?

2. Bonus question: DailyMotion website/videos don't plan on mozilla firefox; Youtube, Vimeo work just fine. For info, I use HTTPS Everywhere, PrivacyBadger, Ublock origin and No Script add-ons but I adjust them depending on the website. Tried all of it but DM does not work.

Thanks!

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

One issue that seems more common lately is Firefox's Tracking Protection feature. When it is blocking content in a page, a shield icon will appear at the left end of the address bar next to the padlock icon. This article has more info on managing this feature: Tracking Protection {web link}

You can now do this :

Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter) (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

privacy.resistFingerprinting

and set its value to true

Then close and restart Firefox.

I assume "Resist Fingerprinting" is already set to true by the OP because the user agent is showing Firefox 52. When "Resist Fingerprinting" is enabled then canvas fingerprinting is automatically disabled. You can test that by (temporarily) disabling Resist Fingerprinting.

  • privacy.resistFingerprinting = false

The OP says in his original post :

"This message/warning isn't showing up on Mozilla Firefox 59.0.2 after I upgraded. "

That's what I based my post on.

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply & acknowledgement for your help

1. Canvassing issue:- checked the settings and privacy.resistfingerprinting= true in 59.0.2 but it was the same case in 59.0.1 but the message used to be displayed when a website was trying to canvass the browser. it stopped after I upgraded to 59.0.2. Thanks cor-el, Happy112

2. Dailymotion works in safe mode (Thanks FredMcD). The problem is getting it to work with add-ons(I use noscript which i tweak based on the requirements & ublock origin). I use the same with youtube & tweak it to watch videos( I am bit paranoid with everyone collecting data on everyone and then telling you what you should like :) ) any idea how to have dailymotion work with add-ons???

Disable protection for Dailymotion as a test.

Since you use Linux, do you get all check marks as blue on https://www.youtube.com/html5/ ?

If a couple are red then perhaps you do not have FFmpeg package installed in your package manager to fully use HTML5 players.
