History settings: changing from "custom" to "never remember" is not taken.
Based on what I read (Firefox instructions and other users' issues, I tried to change in a lot of different ways, but no luck. Firefox does not keep changes made. I uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it, but this did not work either.
What I have now: "Firefox will: use custom settings for history" Checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" and "Accept cookies from sites" "Accept third-party cookies: Never"
What I would like to have: "Firefox will: never remember history".

The default third party cookie setting for "Never remember history" is Always (see attached based on testing in a new profile). Since you customized it, Firefox displays "Use custom settings for history".
Thanks for your help, jscher2000. I tried the combination suggested even before posting my question, but still changes made are not kept and Firefox reverts to the customized option. I tried once again, though, but no success. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox did not resolve it either. I had switched it in the past, but I was always able to return to the "Never remember history" setting. For some reason it is not taking it this time. Do you have any other suggestions please?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

What are the custom settings it shows? How do they differ from what you want Firefox to be doing?
