How long should "refresh Firefox" take?

more options

How long should "refresh Firefox" take? I clicked on the refresh button. Firefox closed, but the message to click "finish" never appeared. Also, I did not see the "Old Firefox Data" file on my desk top as the article states. I only waited about 20 minutes. Should I have waited longer?

No, it's usually a minute or two. Firefox may have had a problem shutting down, which could derail the whole process.

Will Firefox start, or do you get an error message about a missing profile?

Thanks for your response.

I have no problem starting Firefox now. No error message. I just tried the whole refresh process again with the same results. After pressing the button to refresh, Firefox shuts itself down immediately, but nothing further happens. When I restarted Foxfire myself, it brought me back to the Mozilla support page I was on when I attempted to activate the Refresh process.

Just a little background: The reason I attempted the refresh process in the first place is that when I originally started Foxfire this morning, a message appeared saying that Foxfire was taking a long time to start and suggested that I run refresh.

Any additional information or suggestions you may have would be appreciated. Thanks again.

In my opinion, if starting slowly is the only problem, then it's easier to ignore that message. If Firefox is bogging down during regular browsing, then a Refresh might have more to recommend it. But even then, it may be possible to make a few small adjustments first that have a big impact, and save the time of reestablishing settings and add-ons that are removed in a Refresh.
