I just bought an older 2006 Macbook Pro 17" (Intel Core Duo 2ghz, 2gb ram), and installed the latest version of firefox (sadly, the only browser that is still supported on OSX 10.6.8)

I tried watching some Youtube Videos and it was totally unwatchable, in both HTML5 and if I forced the Flash Player with an addon. First I thought it might have been the hardware, since it is 10 years old, but then I tried to watch the same video in Safari, it played just fine.

Something has to be going on with Firefox if the same video works fine in Safari, an out of date browser not even supported by Apple anymore, or Youtube for that matter.

I have installed all updates, and I am using the latest version of Firefox.

Sorry, but what you mean by "totally unwatchable"? Do you mean you just get a black rectangle and the video doesn't play, or the video plays in very low resolution, or the video is completely messed up?

as in choppy, out of sync, frozen at times, etc etc, regardless of resolution.

Something you could try very quickly. I don't know anything against it but try disabling your YouTube™ Flash® Player 1.6.2 . It mightn't work well with your older Mac or there could be some conflict or corruption.
