Getting hundreds of duplicate bookmarks when sync'ing between Firefox on two computers
Firefox sync is creating hundreds of duplicates between Firefox ver.45.01 on one computer running Win7 and Firefox ver.45.01 on another computer running Win7
Are other people having the same problem in Firefox?
Is there some way to stop the duplicates?
Thank you, Docfxit

When you are having a problem using sync, shut it down on all computers. On your 'main' system, try one of these;
Use with Extreme Caution;
Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner {web link} Scans for bookmark duplicates and allows you to delete them
Bookmarks Checker - check for bad links {web link}
Check favorites for broken or bad links. It checks for bad links and
displays a report if it finds something. Check for 404 links, timeout links.
I tried Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner. It works very well. As soon as I sync the computers the duplicates come back and I get more duplicates.
I tried Bookmarks Checker. It does a great job of finding bad links.
That doesn't stop Firefox from creating duplicates links and folders.
I can't continue using Firefox sync when It continues to make duplicates. It takes me hours to remove the duplicates it makes.
Thanks,

Firefox Sync may struggle when there are a lot of bookmarks, a lot of differences or a you have a slow connection. You could try not syncing bookmarks, just turn that option off. You could try making it easier for Firefox and manually backup bookmarks from one computer to the others while sync was off. Sync would then only need to add new bookmarks as you added them and may work ok again.
Personally I avoid using Firefox Sync, and have hoped Firefox developers would review and update out documentation on Sync. Maybe then we would be able to give better advice, maybe even some indication of when to use or not to use Firefox Sync.
I will add an escalate tag to this question, let's see if Helpdesk staff can add useful tips or a solution.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync while performing maintenance/repair efforts to files in the Firefox profile folder.
