IMAP connection but messages being deleted from server

I am using Thunderbird with an IMAP connection to our server (port 993). When a message is deleted or moved to a folder in Thunderbird it is being deleted from the server. I do not want message to be deleted from the server. Any advice on how to stop this happening would be gratefully received. Thank you.
