Why is firefox deleting my norton tool bar repeatedly
With the most recent upgrade i lost my norton 360 toolbar. In following the directions to reinstall it i was able to get it back. But if you log off for any length of time firefox deletes. it. Even tho it shows as being enabled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled norton 3 times. Each time temporarily fixing the problem but then it comes back. I have tried to reset firfox but that has not helped.

Download the current full installers for your Norton programs and save them.
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installers.
tried that, no help there
Hi
This is an issue caused by Symantec (the people who make Norton) not getting an update out fast enough. They have said that an update is due by the end of October, so hopefully it is due soon.
I would always recommend you use the most recent and and up to date version of Firefox. This ensures you get the new features plus any stability and security fixes.
I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.
If you need the Norton Toolbar for logging into websites, I suggest trying a different variant of Firefox called the Extended Support Release (ESR) for the time being. ESR currently is based on Firefox 38 with some security updates. It is unlikely to have any changes related to add-on compatibility until next year.
Norton is likely to continue to support ESR until the new toolbar update planned for this month. After that, I'm not sure what they will do because normally they only support a small range of versions.
If you decide to try it, here is how I suggest installing it:
Clean Reinstall
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.4.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
(C) Rename the program folder, either:
(64-bit Windows folder names)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx42
(32-bit Windows folder names)
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files\Fx42
(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Success?
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that Fx42 folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
- \Fx42\Plugins
- \Fx42\browser\plugins
