Where has the "edit page with Excel" gone ?

more options

I often go to a web page that contains a spreadsheet, and I used to be able to pull down a menu that had several items, one of which was something like "Page-->Edit with Excel". Now that is gone, and I have no idea how or why, nor do any of the articles mention how to get it back.

Edit with Excel has NEVER been a default menu item in Firefox - NEVER!

If you want that feature, you'll need to install an extension or plugin to get that menu item in Firefox - if one is even available.

Just go to menu->options->applications and select your default application for opening docs

If you get any problem go through this link : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/applications-panel-set-how-firefox-handles-files

Ha ha. Pardon ? Menu-->Options--Applications ???? When I do that I don't see Excel as a possible content type choice, nor do I see how to add it.

Maybe look at an extension like this:

Why would I need to install an add-in, when I had none installed before ? I looked at it, and it is not what I had before. There was a pull-down list of items, one of which was "Edit with Excel". This was a direct function call, to launch Excel against the URL, and open it as a spreadsheet file. To me, this appeared as a standard function in Firefox, and it just suddenly disappeared. Thanks for the offer to help, but something is missing here. Does no one else have this pull-down list on the upper right, just below the toolbar ?

Firefox never had such an option to open a file in Excel for editing. The only way to see this would be via the "Open with" dialog when you were saving a file (link).

Are you sure that you aren't confusing browsers?

No, I am absolutely certain it was Firefox. No saving of the file was required. It opened Excel right from within FF. There WAS a pull-down menu, and I think it said PAGE. It seems there was an additional tool bar of some type that is no longer there. Thanks for trying to help.

Trying to remember how i accessed Excel. Maybe it was a right-mouse thing. Doesn't work now, but maybe .......

Well, I found a way around it. I download the file as an HTM, then import it into Excel, which I launched separately. Ugly, but workable. Thanks for the help, even if we did not come across my desired solution.

Firefox never had this feature natively AFAIK, so a solution without installing an extension is very unlikely. Maybe some MS Office plugin could have added if if the file is send with a supported MIME type. So you can check if there are disabled plugins.

Profound apologies for wasting all your time. The feature I described is part of Internet Exploder, NOT Firefox. My problem remains, as the Edit with Excel is still missing there.
