Trying to find a "previous email addresses" list to correct. How can I find an address that appears incorrectly?
I'm a Mac user using Thunderbird as my email browser. I enter an nickname, such as abc. In my address book, the first name is abc, the last name is mnopq, the Display is abc mnopq, the nickname is abc, the email address is abc@def-ghi.com. When I finish entering the nickname (abc), what appears in the To: field is the expansion: abc mnopq <"abc "@def-ghi.com >, and this fails the email quiz (the daemon that looks up the correct address). I can't send the message without manually correcting the expanded email address every time I send something to this email address. In my Mac's MAIL, which I don't use, there is the means to delete a previously entered email address from the list of all of the email addresses that I have used. Thunderbird seems to go to this kind of list first. I need to find out where this bad expanded email address is and delete it or correct it. Know where it is? Thank you in advance…..

Thunderbird gets all the address suggestions from one of your address books. You have two books by default. The Personal and the Collected books. The " marks shown in your example indicate unnecessary spaces in the address that need to be fixed.
If you cannot locate the defective address in one of your books, it was more than likely saved with some info missing and will not show up.
Start a message and when the bogus address shows up, select it and save the message to drafts. Then you can open the draft message and double click the address to open the edit dialog box and delete or fix it from there.

Thank you for a super quick response. I'll try it, but not until next Tuesday. ( I'll be out of the office from tomorrow morning until Monday evening.)
cheers,

Instead of double clicking on the address, you should single click on the yellow star after the address. When you hove the star, you'll see a tooltip saying Edit Contact. Click the star and correct it from there or click the Edit Details button to change other fields...
Hi, everyone….
If I understood the first response, by saving the message in Drafts and then using Edit to change the incorrect email address, that doesn't make the change for the future; I have to make the correction when I enter the nickname (and not Save it for Drafts).
In the second response, I did not have the yellow war after the address and couldn't let it hover over the address.
I cleaned up my whole Address Book and had the same email address for two slightly different nicknames (same person). So, I deleted one of the entries and now, when I select by the remaining nickname, it works our correctly.
I very much appreciate the help!
