Thank you but...system date and time are correct (should have mentioned earlier as I did see this soluion posted before creating mine and verified). Could date and time be issue at system/BIOS level and not in Windows?

How does the problem manifest itself, exactly? Are you able to load secure sites, including the details pages for Firefox Add-ons?

It's just when you click the Add to Firefox button that you get the error message?

You have two versions of Shockwave Player ("Shockwave for Director"). If you don't know for a fact that you need that plug-in — most sites need Flash Player ("Shockwave Flash") — I suggest that you get rid of it. Otherwise, you should perform a clean install as described below.

1. From the following page, save the uninstaller, the full installer for Netscape, and the full installer for Internet Explorer if you also need it in that browser.

2. Exit all applications.
3. Run the uninstaller.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Run the installer for Netscape.

Outdated plug-ins contain security vulnerabilities that put your system at risk. That's why I brought them up even though they have nothing to do with your issue.

I could give up too. Its v28 now so no up path. Is there work around to install add-ons? Moving down, no - unless doing so is means to additional support suggestions from Mozilla with v28 - not worth my time. What if the same issue on v26 for example, does that say?! I know this occurs in the 'wild' as I am not first to inquire but perhaps its still a matter which could be avoided by Firefox in future releases (think opportunity :-) My conclusion is to investigate whether issue is with the equipment/system clock (not windows) and this is symptom. Regardless, I do highly appreciate Mozilla products and its support community. Cheers.

Thanks everyone. GBM - lots for me to go through so thank you for suggestions. I happened first when trying to add fileftp from their .net site. Then same from Mozilla Add-ons, and same again for DDG. Let's me select to install, then the dialog box with extended effor info follows. I was able to add Startpage but it was bumpy path to complete. I'll see what I can scrape up from some addl inspection. cheers.

A lot of sites may be getting new SSL certificates due to Heartbleed, so that could explain some occasional glitches these days... not that that really helps you...

Maybe. If it's a server issue, then all you can do is wait for it to be resolved. Try the following:

1. Go to the FireFTP details page.

2. Right-click the "Add to Firefox" button and choose Save Link As. If you get the error message at this stage, then we're back to square one. Otherwise, save the XPI file somewhere handy, like the desktop.
3. Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A). Click the Gear Icon in the top right-corner and choose Install Add-on from File, then pick the XPI file you downloaded earlier.

Downgrading Firefox is bad advice. All that would do is expose your system to security vulnerabilities.
