'Unable to load address book file abook.mab.' How can I solve this? Email addresses not loading. Help Please!
Hi. I'm using Thunderbird 24.4.0. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. Suddenly I started getting the following error message on opening Thunderbird:
"Unable to load address book file abook.mab. It may be read-only, or locked by another application. Please try again later."
As a result, when writing new emails my address book contacts do not load in the To: field. I now have to type or paste recipients' email addresses myself. I've tried closing and reloading the program, rebooting the PC several times, tried reinstalling Thunderbird, scanned the PC for malware and viruses, but no success at all.
Can anyone help me solve this? Does anyone know what might have caused the problem? I have hundreds of emails to write each day and it's really slowing me down!

try adding the Thunderbird profile folder to your anti virus program exceptions list
Did what you suggested, I thought it made sense... but sadly it didn't work. Still get the same error. Many thanks!
when you open your address book, are the entries there to be viewed or copied?
When I open the address book it's completely blank.
I also just got a similar error message as above, but this time telling me that the history.mab file can't be loaded.
