There are no further details like what media player it wants me to update, it fills my entire screen, pops up despite my popup block being on, and the web source seems to change all the time for example, the one that just popped up (8/17/13) has a URL of: http://web.tofushopnews.com/g/?ilmernzkvtazn=0007E94364A51F89&pu=d2VsbHNmYXJnby5jb20=&s=firefox&nm=ilmernzkvtazn&t=aHR0cHM6Ly9vbmxpbmUud2VsbHNmYXJnby5jb20vZGFzL2NoYW5uZWwvdmlld1RyYW5zZmVyU2V0VXA=

In July the URL was:http://big.deluxeforthefuture.com/g/?ilmernzkvtaz=0007E94364A51F89&pu=Y2hlc3MuY29t&s=firefox&nm=ilmernzkvtaz I didn't find any before July. Where is this coming from. It looks a lot like the phishing emails that I get asking me click on a link. What bothers me is that I do not see any place where I can block something that comes via a tab called 'Sponsorship". How do I get rid of this thing.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Let us know, if it helped. If safe mode has not ridden you of the problem, see

... and give us some more details, if possible.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
