I have tried to use the option fromt the File menu to email a link. All that happens is that I get diverted to Chrome = the Google Browser. Why is this and how can I fix this problem.

Firefox is set as my default Browser.

thanks

Michael

In control Panel > Set Programs Default > Email > Change to Firefox.

Firefox doesn't know how to handle email, so you should never set Firefox as the default email program.

Which email program or online email service do you use?

You can look at the network.protocol-handler.external.mailto prefs on the about:config page.

If network.protocol-handler.external.mailto prefs are user set (bold) then right-click and Reset them to the default value.
You can also try to change the network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mailto pref to true.

I think the problem is wWindows 8 with Firefox. I did not this problem with Windows XP and Firefox.

Regrettably the above anwsers have not helped.

The point is that Chrome is imposing itself on Firefox from within the Firefox program. This seems bizarre.

Toolbar, File menu, Email link... ENTER

Result - Chrome opened in a new Window

Can you answer which email program or web based email service you use?

What is the Mailto setting in "Firefox/Tools > Options > Applications"?

You are right, I have found the problem , now I need to solve it!

If I go to Firefox > Tools > Options > Applications then I find that Chrome is set as the default Email to option. (Use Google Chrome Default)

My email program is Outlook Office 2010 - I am now left with the problem of finding the correct directory path to find Outlook Office on my computer. I have found Microsoft Office without difficulty, but not Outlook Office !

Try to set it as Ask me and make sure that Outlook Office is the default email program.
That should make Firefox offer it as the prime choice.

If that didn't help then you may have to remove the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.
