Sometimes, when I open FF 18 there will be an orange tab above the Menu Bar, there are two Minimize/Full/Close buttons in the upper right corner, the Back and Forward Arrows don't work (are blanked out and unusable)...which means my Back and Forward Mouse Buttons are unusable, too...and the Undo Closed Tab is blanked out and unavailable on all of my Tabs (see screenshot here: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135.../Screenshot1.jpg). Normally there is nothing above the Menu Bar except the Title Bar....(one). Why?

Hi 22639,

Could you post a link to a larger screenshot please? It's very hard to tell what's going on in the thumbnail image you linked to, but it looks like you have two window bars, which I've never seen before.

Have you tried to toggle the orange Firefox button on and off? You can find instructions for how to do that in this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/display-firefox-button-menu-instead-menu-toolbar?esab=a&s=menu+bar&r=0&as=s#os=winxp&browser=fx17

It looks like you have switched to the old "classic" Windows interface, so the screenshots in the article above won't match exactly what you see, but should still be helpful. When you see both title bars like this, try to toggle the orange button and see what happens.

Generally, I would recommend a Firefox Reset if this happens again because it could be due to some weird settings or even malware. Follow the instructions for Firefox Reset here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems

Cheers, David

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
