I tried to find out if 14 would disable Norton as ff occasionally does. I NEED Norton: i have arthritis. I could not find out if 14 woulld disable 13 and just crossed my fingers. Dum idea, i know...Now I need to get back to 13 quick. How can I do this, please? I have to manually log in to every password protected site and i use unique passwords. Thanks for all the help. (and yes, i have used voice input) and while I'm asking, how can I disable ff and check ahead of time next time? :)

ps good thing I back up passwords or I couldn't log in here LOL

Still Want to know how to check future FF updates for addon compatibility and learn how to step back to previous version, but

YAY! Happy dance! Went to Norton to ask why they didn't work in FF 14 and had to stop for a Norton mandatory upgrade (thought it was to fix their crashy release from earlier today) and voila! Norton toolbar is back! Of course, you all knew I'd be checking with both sides of the problem, didn't you? Of course you did. And thanks for help with what's left of my question.

Maybe you should stop using Norton if it causes problems?

But it takes two to tango. I've been in computing since the 80's and all I can say is that change and the frizzes that come with it will always be around. Sometimes it will sting you and sometimes it will hash your entire hard drive. I've gotten lazy in my arthritic way and simply could not verify what would/wouldn't get disabled and took a chance. Both Norton and Firefox share responsibility for compatibility.

I am still looking for answers for backstepping to an earlier version, how to enable manual update only and where to look for forewarnings. thanks for the thought, though.

Just my two cents, the Norton Toolbar doesn't do anything to protect your computer, and most of it's functionality is duplicated by Firefox. Also, it is historically poorly written, and does cause alot of problems in Firefox (it isn't always Firefox's fault when extensions like Norton cause problems). Just so you know, and may want to consider permanently disabling Norton Toolbar.

Norton had there Firefox updates ready just a few hours after Firefox 14.0.1 was released on Tuesday 07-17.

Run a Norton LiveUpdate - repeatedly if necessary.

Norton unlike may other antivirus clients have been pretty good in having a update for new Firefox version the same day or within a couple days for the last several Firefox releases now.

Unlike most extensions where if they were compatible 4.0 they are likely compatible with current, these ones are updated for each major Firefox version.

Thanks, everybody, I guess I better move the other two parts of the question to a new topic? Forget Norton,

I've pretty well ransacked the support forums and guess it's time to hit up the 'official support' people.
