Updating to 3.6.28 using MAC PowerPC isn't working.
I'm one of those poor people with a PowerPC MAC and am using Mac OsX 10.5.8. I am currently using Firefox 3.6.27 and Firefox prompts me to install 3.6.28, which I allow it to do. But when I do, it doesn't install. Firefox 3.6.27 remains.
I understand that my processor is no longer supported on Firefox and that I have a security risk but going to the other browser (forgetting its name right now) says Flash player won't work, which makes that a rather unrealistic option.
So I'd like to continue to limp along with what Firefox has to offer this antique little computer of mine. Why does Firefox keep prompting me with a newer version (3.6.28) when it won't take?

Sorry to hear that, but if you have problem with update firefox the better way is to download and install it.
1. Download a copy of the Firefox program from :
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

For an unofficial Firefox ESR 10.0.4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:
Unfortunately plugins are not supported by TenFourFox.

See this article about how to install multiple versions on Mac OS X, so you can have both versions.
Thanks Ideato. Your suggestion worked and I appreciate your help. The only thing I would add is that I wasn't sure how to "Trash the current Firefox application."
What I did for the Trash portion was I went into my Finder and renamed my current Firefox to something different before I installed the new version. After moving the new Firefox into the Application folder as your link to the "Installing Firefox on MAC" suggested, I went back into my Application folder and moved the renamed file into my trash. I'm not sure that is what was meant by "Trash the current Firefox application" but it seems to be okay. If there is some other clean up to do, perhaps you can post that.
That being said. Thank you for your time and your help.
You are welcome.
Cor-el. Thanks for your reply. I'm going to have to study the TenFourFox solutions before I can move forward with this idea. These certainly are not simple answers for someone who has not kept up their computer knowledge. Knowing I need Flash Player to work at a minimum makes it difficult to determine what to do.
I'm sure there are many of us that wish Mozilla still considered our older MACs worthy of their attention but I guess I understand ... in a sad sort of way.
Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.
