firefox hangs up as still running
when firefox closes an error message say it is still running and it can not be opened again.

Have you looked at the "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix Knowledge Base article? It sounds from your description like this might be what you are experiencing. There can be a few reasons that you'll receive this message. That article will give you plenty of good troubleshooting steps to get back up and running.
