load irrelevant tabs upon launch
upon launch firefox starts with tabs that refer (their URI) to a (non-existing) location over my hard-drive.
in the general tab of the options, i set firefox to display a blank page, i cleared all the history, and rebuilt the sqlite database (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite).
but it still happens every time i launch firefox.

Hi Mrizik,
It is probably of more interest to see what is in your home page and session store
- key in about:sessionstore into the location bar and press return
do you see a list of the none existent tabs now ? - use Firefox Button -> Options -> |General | -> Homepage and check what locations are stored as being the home page.

- your link has a stray bracket it should be http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
If you can find the mystery entries you will no doubt be able to change or delete them. The places.sqlite stores your bookmarks and history and is not directly related to what you first see at startup of Firefox.
Did you check the home page setting?
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
