I have configured my windows settings to show just about everything BIGGER due to sight problems..... especially text and also changed the font. I can only expand more on this by providing a screen shot by email to someone.

I am using Windows XP SP3

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME ?

DOES FF VERSIONS 4,5,6,7 AND 8 AUTOMATICALLY ADOPT MY WINDOWS CONFIGURED SETTINGS ???

No, it doesn't.

The Firefox Page Zoom feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers.

Try the Default FullZoom Level extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6965

Or the NoSquint extension:

Increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps to adjust the size of all fonts and other elements in Firefox.

In current Firefox versions this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

You can also use this for the user interface:

Sorry...but I really don't understand most of what you are suggesting.

Also, some add ons probably will not be up to date for FF8.

Part of my difficulties lie with my nervous system, and at present I cannot think very clearly much of the time.

If there is anyone with a simpler solution...please leave a reply.

Thanks for the replies to you both above.

I don't know why FF has changed this feature.....even Safari does it now !

the-edmeister reply NoSquint extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/

is excellent choice, because NoSquint allows you to adjust the text-only and full-page (both text and images) zoom levels as well as color settings both globally (for all sites) and per site.

thank you

I am not sure that the replies from the users above, have understood my main problem....... I can enlarge a web page text only or all of it..... and I assume FF8 still has this ability. (also use CTL++) These selections are remembered by FF on the site selected...... presumably also in FF8 !

What I refer to is the actual surround (chrome ?) or FF interface itself...

e.g.....If I select a new tab with just a blank page...... what I now see is the white screen, surrounded by the FF interface.....menu, icons, forward/back buttons, tabs and sliders etc....

The only add-on I see that helps with this is "Theme Font & Size Changer 3.0" But not sure it expands everything.

Now, I really want to install FF8... BUT keep my current version until I am able one way or another ...to change it and configure it to my special needs.

I have also discovered that I have a Beta version of FF.....FF 3.6 Beta 4 I have no idea how this was installed, as I have not done it knowingly and consciously !!! It does not show up in ALL PROGRAMS from START..... But does appear in ADD/REMOVE PROGS via Control Panel....also in MY COMPUTER>Program files !! Both versions work...but my desktop short cut links to FF 3.6.24....and that is what I use all the time. (the Beta version must have been there for some time).....So this gave me the idea of maybe keeping my current version and also having a separate program FF8.

Maybe... 1. Install FF8 to a different location folder..say...Mozilla/Firefoxnew8

              2. Rename the existing FF version and create new desktop short cut.

But the only problem I can see in these options is that when FF installs a new update automatically, on start up...... depending on which version I am using at the time...... I presume it will look for folder Mozilla/Firefox..... THEN WHAT WILL HAPPEN ??

Your comments would be Most Welcome and appreciated.
