in any version above FF3.6.24 my scren looks okay for a bit and then goes all crazy with lines of garbage on screen. I have a screen cap if someone wants to take a look. All drivers are up to date. stokjeep at gmail dot com

after i upgraded Firefox I have a severe display issue with black lines covering most of screen - they go away if I refresh but come back shortly after.

Does not happen in IE or Chrome

Does not happen in Firefox 3.6.24 but does with EVERY version after that - I have uninstalled and installed several versions downloaded from oldversion.com

Have verified display and video drivers are up to date.

You can't attach a screenshot to the first post, but you can do that to further posts.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Screen Shot Attached - I mspaint edited the shot to remove the website and bookmarks etc for privacy.

The main area of issue is the bulk of the middle of the picture - that is all text blog entry. The issue is not isolated to website or site format all websites are affected. The issue has no apparent link to any add-on or theme as I have the same issue with a clean install with no add-ons or themes (installed or enabled) as I do with an install that has my typical add-ons installed.

I removed FF again last night several times including removal of all user settings etc. I tried 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 all exhibit the same problem. still 3.6.24 is the highest I can go without having the issue. All uninstalls were done with Revo's most thorough settings.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

I will try that.

I updated my graphics drivers to the most recent the last time I tried to get a newer version of FF to work.

I again re-updated driver for surety over the last few nights before re-trying the installs of newer FF.

So far so good - hardware acceleration disabled seem to have done the trick.

Should there be a noticeable difference with it enabled vs not-disabled ?

What is the preferred setting ?
