I tried the user chrome nonsense, DID NOT WORK, I tried the "STYLISH SOLUTION" DID NOT WORK EITHER. I KNOW HOW TO BOOK MARK THINGS I HAVE BEEN AN "INTERNET USER" SINCE 1991!!! I have stumbled upon a better solution it is called "Dump Fire Fox and use Google Chrome instead" GUESS WHAT IT WORKS!! I still have Fire Fox on my system, but in a little while when I finally get all my site password info transferred Fire Fox will no longer pollute my system. Many people (including me) brought this problem to your attention during the release 6 period, you had a chance to fix it with release 7, you chose not to, why I can not guess. You keep alienating your users like this and you will soon be a afterthought like Internet Explorer. My wife in her frustration with your non-working updates has (at my suggestion) switched to using Safari so now you're oh-fer-two in my household.
Keep up the great work guys. (/sarcasm off)
Sincerely,
ex user

Hi angered,
Before I answer, it should be clarified that the people in here are support community volunteers, not Firefox developers. :)
I should also point out that removing the Unsorted Bookmarks item is not intended to be removable by users, but because the Firefox interface can be customized so much using CSS scripts, removing that menu item is still possible.
I just tested the script that I sent you to, and found that the one in comments works. I made a video recording of me adding that script, so that should help you figure out why it didn't work for you: http://ilias.ca/screencasts/fx-removeunsortedmenu.html
Additionally, something that hadn't crossed my mind before is that you could probably use the Menu Editor extension to remove it. You can get it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/
Why am I as end user being forced to do the job the developers should have done to begin with? They are paid to do it, not me. I am not stupid, but I have to tell you as soon as you want me to muck around with "source code" you lose me as a user. This problem should NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. I frankly am quite sick of the constant updates, as is my wife. Why is it so difficult for you, and the other "advisers" to pass along the end user dissatisfaction with the product? Why does Mozilla slough this crap off on you guys??? I know why and I will tell you, so you can forward this up the food chain and maybe someone with actual power will see it. Mozilla passes the buck to you to A) isolate them selves from criticism, and B) save mucho dinero by having "volunteers" handle these things.
As I mentioned previously I am through using Mozilla, after ten years, because every damned time they update they screw up something else in the way of usability. Each and every update of your browser has added "fat" to the source code so what was once a simple easy to use and understand browser, is now (imho) pure junk. I already know you don't appreciate my position as an end user, otherwise you'd have responded to the personal message I sent you. I will continue to use GOOGLE CHROME, or SAFARI to browse this forum to see if Mozilla fixes the issue, but I have to tell you until such time as Mozilla fixes this problem I am an EX-USER.
As I said previously "Keep up the good work" (/sarcasm off)
P.S. the video you sent looks like it was WINDOWS 7, and I just happen to use Windows XP PROFESSIONAL. Maybe THAT is the reason none of your "fixes" works for me????

The #BMB_unsortedBookmarks mentioned in that article only works for the Bookmarks Menu button and not for the Bookmarks menu.
#BMB_unsortedBookmarks { display: none !important }
If you look in the post that I linked above then you find code for all three possible Bookmarks menus (regular Bookmarks menu, App Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks Menu button on a toolbar). You can choose the the menu entries in that code that code that you want.
#bookmarksMenuPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #menu_unsortedBookmarks { display:none!important; } #BMB_bookmarksPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #BMB_unsortedBookmarks { display:none!important; } #appmenu_bookmarksPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #appmenu_unsortedBookmarks { display:none!important; }
Hi angered,
Nobody wants you to "muck around with source code". Remember that that menu item is not intended to be removable. Rest assured that your complaints are being noted and passed along. There is a feedback team that gathers data from input submitted via the Help > Submit Feedback mechanism, as well as top questions from this forum.
You can view the feedback data at input.mozilla.com. Top issues are reported in the weekly meetings, and through the release rapid response team mailing list. Mozilla is open, so all that stuff is public. :)
And yes, that is Windows XP in my video. ;) Which part of the video is different from your situation?
"Intended to be there?" Then why did it NEVER show up until my idiot son used the stupid star to bookmark something, which he knew damned well he was not allowed to bookmark? I want it gone as I NEVER EVER use the stupid star to bookmark pages. You must think all users are astoundingly stupid. If you think I wanted that crap in my menu to begin with, you're sadly mistaken. Why is it not possible to delete the menu item after my idiot son caused it to appear? Why do I need to go and create an entirely unnecessary folder with a bunch of lines of code, WHICH STILL DO NOT WORK BTW.
Posted again using GOOGLE CHROME, which I am finding is FASTER than Mozilla. Maybe next time I'll use Safari which is even faster yet, and then maybe I'll try Opera to peruse this forum, but I can guarantee you it won't be with Fire Fox. Until I see an update that makes that a removable item I am done with Fire Fox, and the incessant, and useless 90 day update routine.

In the Firefox 4+ versions there are two Bookmark drop-down menus, one on the Menu bar (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help), which doesn't have the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, and the other which is on the Bookmarks Toolbar (or on the Navigation Bar if the Bookmarks Toolbar is hidden) when the Menu Bar is hidden that does have the Unsorted Bookmarks folder. That folder is there from the time of installation, it doesn't automatically appear after the Star is used to save a new bookmark.
If you don't want to see the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, un-hide the Menu Bar and use the Bookmarks menu item on the Menu Bar.
edmeister as usual all you manage to do is exacerbate my frustration. Can you kindly let me work this out with Chris, he seems best when it comes to understanding why I am so damned upset about this situation.
Oh and FYI, I have informed every internet user I know about the issue and have recommended to all to switch to either GOOGLE CHROME or SAFARI.

The entire contents of the userchrome.css folder I made follows:
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* #appmenu_bookmarksPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #appmenu_unsortedBookmarks, #bookmarksMenuPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #menu_unsortedBookmarks, #BMB_bookmarksPopup menuseparator[builder="end"], #BMB_unsortedBookmarks {display:none!important;} /* Hide "Unsorted Bookmarks" in bookmarks toolbar menu */ #BMB_unsortedBookmarks { display: none !important }
IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL.
I am so through with this garbage, don't care if the browser survives any longer, and don't care to download or modify any damned thing else.
Adios mozilla

Make sure that the file name is correct userChrome.css (case sensitive) and not userchrome.css
Also make sure that the file doesn't have a hidden .txt file extension (i.e. shows as File type TEXT or txt), but is a CSS file if you check the Properties.
What is the path of the userChrome.css file?
The code that is posted above where it says "it does not work at all" is missing a comment closing token so everything is considered comment and will be ignored. But maybe it is just the forumsoftware hiding stuff.
It is possible that something went wrong with my edit to make the # work, but as it is now then the comment got lost on the @namespace line.
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

Which post was removed?
If a moderator would make changes because it violates forum rules then we wouldn't remove a post, but merely edit it and add a comment about why.
Especially if it is the original poster who started the thread.
Totally unrelated spam or troll post by others are usually removed.
If a post got lost then that has most likely happened for other reasons.
Did that lost post appear in this thread after you have submit it?

angered,
Could you please stop posting multiple rants and insults? Earlier in this thread, you said "Can you kindly let me work this out with Chris, he seems best when it comes to understanding why I am so damned upset about this situation. " If you'd like to continue working on this with me, please send me a private message. Right now, you're breaking the forum rules, and I haven't seen any intention from you to respect the rules. I'd be happy to continue to help you privately.
I'm locking this thread.
