After upgrading from FF 5.x to FF 6.0, can't start FF; am getting XULRunner window saying "Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion >= 6.0 maxVersion <= 6.0".

Tried Uninstall, then Delete userprofile folder, then reinstall but doesn't fix.

I tried pressing the "I have the problem too" button on this page, but it does not work -- just hangs in Internet Explorer 8.

I cannot press it with my preferred browser, Firefox, because the upgrade to 6 killed it -- and I have no access to my bookmarks and passwords.

I have had this problem with the past several upgrades. The recommendations on the web page do not work (uninstall, remove folder, re-install). I've had to do a complete (including my information) uninstall, then rebuild my profiles.

I really appreciate the effort that the Firefox development community puts in, but this is getting old. Can anyone specify the correct file to zap to fix the XULRunner version problem?

The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.
Do a clean reinstall.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • Uninstall your current Firefox version.
  • Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
