Upon notification that it was available, I downloaded the upgrade for Firefox 5 and attempted to install. The installation sequence went normally until the end where I was instructed to re-start to complete the installation. This did not work and each time I re-start, I continue to get the instruction that I need to re-start to comple the installation and have not access to Firefox. When I tried to re-load either Firefox 4 or 5, I get the same instruction. Help!

If Firefox is installed in the default location, it is in C:\Program Files, with a directory called "Firefox" or "Mozilla Firefox", right? If you browse with Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files and select the Firefox directory, you should be able to remove it by hitting the Delete key on the keyboard.

If all else fails, you can download Firefox in a zip file from the Mozilla FTP site, and dump the contents of the zip file into a directory of your choice.

Choose whatever language you want, download the zip file version and dump its contents wherever you like, and use that.

I would use IE to download the Firefox installer, then uninstall Firefox, and install it from the installer manually.

Won't I lose all my Firefox bookmarks and passwords?

You may need to do a deletion of the Firefox program files folder, as the "uninstaller" may not work with that type of problem. That is covered here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox#On_Windows

You won't loose your personal data if you don't accidentally delete it yourself, but copy your Profile to another location on your hard drive just as a precaution.

The problem is that any way I try to access the Mozilla Firefox file, including the add/delete program file or trying to download on IE, I get the same pop-up message that I need to complete the current installation by re-starting.

Then do as Ed suggested and remove the Firefox program directory and then install it all over again. It never hurts to back up your profile in addition to that.

How do I remove it if I can't access it? Any attempt to remove just gets me the same pop-up. Essentially, the firefox installer, as a part of the installatioon process, has removed my old firefox and is in the process of installing 5.01 and has, for some reason failed near the end so any attempt to access any firefox file including downloading a new install runs into the not quite complete installation of 5.o1 which continues to tell me to re-boot my computer to complete the installation.

I could not delete the original Firefox file because the pop-up said I needed to be the system administrator but I did download it to a new location and that worked! Thanks
