how do you stop tabs from happening (I already know to uncheck the boxes...been there, done that)?
I have unchecked the boxes about opening websites in tabs. I hate tabs. I don't want to use them. Period. I've cleared the entire "TABS" page in options. Yet sites still open up with tabs. Not 100% of the time, but about half or more of the time. How do I stop that!!!?

You certainly are not mainstream.
A lot of sites use JavaScript for links, don't know if that is the difference you see.
You could try changing your about:config settings, I have some examples in the second table (one of the heading columns is "Tab Killer"), which might work, as far as I know everybody who did not want tabs used the extension instead.

The "Tab Killer" extension is not supported in 4.0
