I have had this problem ever sense i updated my browser a few years back and I am about to just delete firefox and change browsers because of it.

For some unknown reason my firefox keeps showing bookmarks in the Address bar, now i know what you are thinking "Why not just set it to show History only" Well i have tried this and for some reason even though i have it showing History only my address bar continues to show my bookmarks. This is very annoying because if i WANTED to view my bookmarks i would simply just CLICK ON THE BOOKMARKS TAB at the top of my browser! Or i would just press "CTRL + B" I want my address bar to show ONLY history of websites i have viewed or typed not saved as bookmarks!!!

I believe this is a glitch.. an annoying one. I have tried every single trick i could find. The reason i think this is a glitch is because when i try to set my Privacy Options to "Never Remember History" or "Remember History" It goes right back to "Use custom settings for history."

If nobody can help me ill be changing my browser. This has been happening for too long and it keeps happening to me.... it's annoying me to no end.

To see History and Cookie settings in Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting __Firefox will: Use custom settings for history__
You need to make at least one change to make the custom setting stay selected.
If all settings are the default then the History and Cookie setting revert to "(Never) Remember history" the next time you open Tools > Options > Privacy.

You can try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window.

Hey, me again. I tried your suggestion and i got the same exact thing.. all it did was reset my browser but kept my bookmarks in the history..... I have tried everything i could...I have edited about:config and got the same issue... nothing has worked....The only thing that ever worked to fix this issue was a Firefox addon that is now out of date....

I am going to have to start looking for a new browser...

To Mozilla Firefox staff....I loved your browser, it has done me good for along time until you added this stupid new feature to make bookmarks in the history bar....It doesn't make things convenient to us users, we have many other ways and shortcuts of getting to the bookmarks we never needed another way. All this is done was made my browsing harder and more confusing because i could not find websites i visited in the mess of bookmarks.

Maybe if firefox gets rid of this stupid feature ill re-download it. But this has been happening for YEARS...i am fed up with it...I should not be spending hours of my time looking for fixes to something i never wanted in the first place.

Bye, thanks for your time Cor-el. If anyone else has suggestions it will e mail to me. Thanks Again.

You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
