We want granular control over which add-ons are installed in the enterprise, so that folks can't just install whatever they want without IT department knowledge and approval. Also the ability to install the browser with a standard set of add-ons. Enterprise management of the browser in a nutshell.

Every time Firefox opened

== always

Setting this preference in about:config to false prevents extensions being installed:

xpinstall.enabled

To lock this preference down see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences

Also, the Client Customisation Kit allows you to build a personalised version of firefox, with changes shown at http://code.google.com/p/ff-cckwizard/ and to integrate it with an existing windows installer see http://tinyurl.com/29kwdw8 and http://tinyurl.com/2ck9m5e
