Is there a way to rename a bookmark folder? I am using Firefox on a Mac. I do not see an option to do that under Manage Bookmarks. Thanks.

Look at the screenshot of my last post. Click the folder you want to change(top circle). Now you will see the folder name in the box lower right(bottom circle). Click on the box to work on the entry.

I think this should work; Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B. Firefox 84+ <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> O.

In the directory 'tree' on the left, select what you want. Under the list on the right side of the window, that entry should be displayed. Click on the entry and do what you want.

Thanks for the quick answer, but I could not figure out how this might work.... I have 97.0.1.

F10 turned off the speaker. The is no Alt on my keyboard. Command - Shift - 0 didn't do anything...

On the top menu bar I can see Bookmarks; under it there is Manage Bookmarks; under Manage Bookmarks there a Bookmarks Toolbar which has one entry: Most visited...

If I just select a folder from the tree of bookmark folders, it doesn't have a rename option.

Thanks for not giving up on me. It was really simple, after I looked in the right place. I didn't see your screen capture before, sorry about that.

I just had to pick Bookmarks, select Manage Bookmarks, pick Bookmarks menu and then the Bookmarks folder where the folder is that I wanted to rename. No need for "special" keys, shortcuts, etc. Navigating this way took me to the right place, where with your pointer to the proper location I was able to rename the folder.

Usually Rename is part of a drop down box that comes up by right clicking on a folder, but obviously this works differently. But it did work.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.

Note that in a right-click context menu of a bookmark you need to look for Edit Folder or Edit Bookmark to make such a change.

I appreciate it. Fred's answer was a working solution to renaming a folder. Right clicking on a folder doesn't bring up any EDIT options in my version (97.0.1.). As developers move left and right all options, it is hard to know where they are. By the time one gets used to finding something, it "disappears".

In my version, right clicking on a folder shows: - open all bookmarks - delete folder - sort by name - cut, copy, paste - add (bookmark, folder, separator).

You see what you posted above if you right-click a folder or bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) as there you use the Details pane at the bottom right. If you right-click a folder or bookmark in the sidebar or on the Bookmarks Toolbar or in a menu then you should also have "Edit Folder/Bookmark" (previously named Properties) in the right-click context menu.

Thanks, but the Bookmarks Toolbar has two entries: Most Visited & Getting Started. Sorry, I have no idea what the sidebar might be, so while I tried to follow what you suggested (just as a learning opportunity), I don't know what you mean. The only way I can see my Bookmarks folders is through the Bookmarks Manager.

I really do not know how one is supposed to guess all of this, particularly when references to entries change, they are moved aimlessly to new places. I wish developers would focus on something that is needed instead of just renaming and moving things without any added benefit to the end users.

You can toggle the bookmarks sidebar on/off via "Command+B" (Linux/Win: "Ctrl+B"). You can find a Sidebars button in the Customize palette and drag it on the Navigation Toolbar.

(edited to correct the key sequence for Mac)

Thanks. Not exactly "intuitively obvious" to the casual user that one has to use "Command+B" to get to a "sidebar" for Bookmarks, where functions for Bookmarks are "similar" (but not the same) as in Manage Bookmarks. I am wondering if there is a rational reason for having a sidebar for Bookmarks, in addition to Manage Bookmarks? Could not be more confusing....

Think of it like this: The sidebar is a quick reference to the bookmarks.

The sidebar is attached to the browsing window for easy access and can show one item at the time (Bookmarks, History, Synced Tabs) while the Library is a stand-alone window with more features.

Thanks. I learned something. However, from my simplistic view, the "KISS" approach is the best one...
