Why is Google SERP dark mode now black instead of gray?
I'm using dark mode for Google and it worked fine until recently when suddenly the SERP appeared in black rather than gray. I have already tried changing the layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override setting to 2 but it didn't have any effect. I have included screenshots of Firefox and Chrome where you can clearly see the difference in color. The black background is very uncomfortable and I need to change it back to the gray color like in Chrome. How?

Probably solved: This seems to be unrelated to Firefox and instead a Google experiment or bug happening only to a select range of accounts: https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/151315971/dark-mode-suddenly-became-very-black-mode

Yes of course it is dark mode, I'm using that intentionally. But please look at the difference in color between the 2 screenshots I have attached to my question. In Firefox it is completely black (not good) while in Chrome it is gray (good).
Understand...
Evidently it is a google feature. https://www.reddit. com/r/firefox/comments/svfn85/weird_issue_with_latest_update_googlecoms_dark/
Is your Firefox applying "High Contrast"? You can disable it using the steps in the following article to rule that out: Disable high contrast mode in Firefox.

I followed these instructions and changed High Contrast mode from Only with High Contrast themes to Never but it didn't have any effect.
Additional information: When I log out of all Google accounts in Firefox (or open a private window) the color is back to gray like in Chrome. It's only black if I'm signed in with a Google account in Firefox. What???
