The problem is that some e-mails never appear in the inbox or else appear and then disappear in a few seconds. Sometimes e-mails from the same address will appear OK one time and not the next. Here are the details.

My husband and I share an e-mail account from RCN. We each access it on our own personal computers (Windows 10) using Thunderbird as well as on our Android phones. (Note our computers are the same model.) I set both of them up as pop accounts and selected to leave messages on the server for 14 days. Thunderbird works fine on my computer, but not on his - he has the disappearing e-mail.

Since it's the same account and it works on my computer ( and on the phones), the problem must be on his computer. We have looked in the junk and trash folders and the missing e-mails are not there. I would really appreciate any input on what might be causing the problem. Thanks in advance.

I suggest you check again that his account is POP. I am guessing you forgot to change the default when you set the account up and it is actually imap. What you describe is classic IMAP when the server copy moves/deleted stuff.

If you right click the account in the folder pane and there is a subscribe menu entry it is an imap account.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I don't see a subscribe menu entry. When I go to settings/server settings it says server type POP mail server. Is there another place in the settings that I need to check to make sure it is really using POP?

Today, for the first time, emails disappeared or never appeared in Thunderbird on my computer! It had been working fine for about a year and I did not change any settings. However, I noticed that Thunderbird had just been updated. Any ideas would be really appreciated.
