Cannot update Firefox browser

more options

My Firefox is currently on version 69.0. I am trying to update it by going to Firefox -> About Firefox. When I click about Firefox, the window opens displaying my current version. From the articles about updates I read, it should start automatically updating, but nothing happens. I click the "Restart to Update Firefox" button, and my Firefox session is restarted but I am still on version 69.0. I do not see any other way online to go about updating Firefox other than this route, so I am not sure what to do. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Try installing Firefox 78 first, using the steps in the following article:

Assuming that installs and runs successfully, and upgrades your files from their Firefox 69 formats to Firefox 78 formats, then try having it update itself normally.

Any luck?

I followed the second link and this worked. I now have a version of Firefox 89.0 on my computer. It looks like I have both the old version and this newer version on my computer. I need to get my bookmarks from the old one over, but I see there is an article about that. Thank you for your help.

Uh-oh, usually the new installation seamlessly takes over your existing profile. If you run into problems, let us know.
