Various issues relating to my outlook exchange account

I have added various gmail accounts to Thunderbird with no trouble at all. But when I tried to add my outlook account with the IMAP protocol it said:

"Configuration could not be verified. If your username and password are correct, it is likely the the server administrator has disabled the selected configuration for your account. Try selecting another protocol."

It does work if I add it as an exchange account and all my emails appear correctly, but everytime I open up the thunderbird app, a message appears saying:

"Login to server outlook.office365.com with username [anonymous]@outlook.com failed". So i just close the message and the app seems to work normally...

Furthermore, if the exchange account is the only one that does not offer any email encryption options...

I will be very grateful to anyone who knows how to fix any of these problems :)

If you neither use POP nor IMAP you'll need to install an add-on. Which one are you using?

The add on i am using is "Owl for Exchange"
