Hi, I wish to use firefox to read my html files stored on the sd card.

  1. If I try to open it with a file browser such MIUI file browser, X-plore or Total Commander, Firefox doesn't shows up in the options (I have Chrome, MIUI browser and others too).
  2. If I try to navigate to it with file:///...myfile.html in the address bar (actually copy-pasting the url from one of the file browsers, no chanche to remember it otherways) it launches a serach on duckduckgo instead of opening the file itself.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with MIUI 11.0.2, firefox86.1.1, and the archive permission already set for firefox. My wish is to enable the first option, of course, the second would be just a work around. Thank you

Hi

I am sorry you cannot do this at the moment, but this is something we may revisit in a future update.

Hi

That option is currently unavailable in Firefox for Android.

Thank you Seburo, (I hope the developers will fix this), but why can't I use at least option 2? In the past I was able to open a local file then save it as a bookmark on the home screen (the index file) and from that index file I was able to open other linked htmls. Now the bar launches only a serach online.

this sadly confirms Seburo information https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/1327

I recognize that there are security issues underlying this decision, especially the potential of links within an on-line web page directly referencing "file://". However it would seem that disabling any and all URIs of "file://" in any situation is way too harsh a solution. Disallowing "file://" as an explicit link *within* any html file seems like it would be sufficient. None of my Android usage does that. I either type in the complete "file://" URI or use a bookmark of that URI to directly reference a file on my device. Any links to other files also on the device within my html files are addresses *relative* to the current file. That way I can develop and test a set of related pages locally on my device, then later simply upload the set of files to my web site. With relative addresses the files work in both locations without change. But I REALLY need to be able to access these development files directly on the device when I do not have Internet access. PLEASE reconsider this excessive restriction.
