The Amazon Search Suggestions always leads me to the US Amazon site. But I want to search the Germany location. Where to change?

I deleted the Search Suggestion and added it from amazon.de several times. But ALWAYS the US site will appear when searching for a product.

Is there any possibility change this setting? It's so annoying.

Thanks.

Hi There,

Are you able to try this out, and let me know how you get on?

1. Go to amazon.de 2. Search for an item 3. Click the button with the Flag on the top right, and change it to the German Flag, and this should change it to the Germany Location.

If that fails, try this:

1. Go to amazon.de 2. Click Account & Lists at the top 3. Click Manage your Content & Devices 4. Then go to Preferences 5. You can then change your Country/Region there.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Connordavies ...

could not imagine that this will help with Amazon Search Plugin "Amazon Search Suggestion" for Firefox ...

Of course I can search on German Amazon page, but the plugin "Amazon Search Suggestion" won't do so. No matter how hard I try :(

... Amazon Search Plugin "Amazon Search Suggestion" for Firefox ...

Do you mean the built-in Amazon.de search?

When I look in the search code site for the URLs used for search and suggestions, it looks like if your browser locale is de, then search and suggestion URLs point to the .de site:

https://searchfox.org/mozilla-release/source/browser/components/search/extensions/amazon/_locales/de/messages.json

So I'm not sure why your Firefox requests .com URLs, or why Amazon redirects you to the .com site.

If I were investigating this, I would use the "Browser Console" window. You can open it using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+j

Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the window, and on the right end of that bar turn on XHR and Requests.

Then switch back over to your main window and start typing in the address bar and submit a search using a suggestion.

Then back in the Browser Console (scroll up if needed), you should see requests listed for each change of your query text and for the eventual search. (You can click the triangle to show and hide details as needed.) Does it show that Firefox is always requesting on the .com site, or is Amazon's .de site redirecting Firefox to the .com site? Redirects are shown on the right side of the URL row as "301" or "302" codes instead of the usual "200" code.

Note that the attached troubleshooting information shows Amazon.de and others as builtin search engines.

You also have the DE language packs installed. What is your installed Firefox locale (possibly en-US or en-GB) ?

I don't know whether your Kaspersky software might have effect on how websites see you.

@jscher2000: Well it always leads to amazon.com from the beginning. No 30X redirect. (See Screenshot.)

@cor-el: Don't know where to check that, but I'm pretty sure, that it is the German locale.

Ok, nevertheless. I was about to uninstall FF to make a clean re-install. But before totally removing from system I clicked on "Clean up Firefox". After FF restarted I could add the Amazon.de search to my settings and delete the Amazon Suggestions from it. Now - with the correct keyword - the search works well for Amazon.de :)

Thanks anyway for all your help. BTW: If I use Amazon Search Suggestion for my search it still leads me to amazon.com. But this doesn't bother me anymore, since I always use my keyword to get to amazon.de :)
