Firefox keeps starting over after a (re)start of my iMac

Everytime I (re)start my iMac Firefox starts as if it's a new download. No settings saved, no browse history, no passwords saved. It starts with the page where you initialize Firefox and with the privacy statement in the second tab. I checked all the settings and I think they are standard.

How can I open Firefox after a new (re)start without having to reinstall all the settings?

Thanks so much and kind regards,

Joop

I tried the solution in 'Every time I restart my macbook or quit firefox it logs me out' with Privacy options and adjust the History-settings so Firefox won't delete cookies, caches etc. That doesn't seem to work either.

Sorry for the long wait & happy holidays!

This sounds very strange indeed. Is Firefox the only program affected by this? And this only happens when the iMac is powered off or restarted? It doesn't keep happening while the iMac is on?

It definitely sounds like the Firefox profile where the settings are contained are getting wiped or deleted. Do you have any kind of program that does cleaning on your PC? Like maybe CCleaner or similar. A sandbox software like DeepFreeze? Or any antivirus or antimalware programs? I'm thinking something may be accidentally obsessed with Firefox & keeps wiping it settings.

Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file.

Open the Firefox Disk Images file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Images, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.
