Hi,

There needs to be a dummy-proof manual for using OpenGPG in Thunderbird 78+.

For the old versions, there was e.g. https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/berichten-digitaal-ondertekenen-en-versleutelen

That site links to the OpenGPG HowTo which you cannot share with a non-ITer... so it kind of defeats the purpose of natively integrating OpenGPG in TB, namely to make end-to-end-encryption more broadly available.

Thanks

What's wrong with the FAQ?

Take an average computer user (i.e. without a degree in computer science etc. ;)) and let him/her read the document and then actually use OpenGPG... no way that this is gonna happen, people are scared away by the amounts of texts, e.g. tons of (for them) totally useless references to Enigmail, technical descriptions etc. etc. etc.

Folks like them need an easy to follow instruction, with screenshots etc. Texts need to be easily understandble and actually describe all require activities. The FAQ seems to stop after "I have never used OpenPGP with Thunderbird before: How do I setup OpenPGP?"... It start with "so-called private keys"... people will need some explanation of the concept of pub/priv keys work. You don't need to re-invent the wheel, but a link to a good description will do wonders.

Missing also from end-to-end: How people can import public keys, where they need to click to actually send an encrypted mail. And then a decluttered FAQ, without the enigmail stuff (or that at the end, together with the technical questions).

In short: Please let a technical writer rework this document.
