The contents of my inbox disappeared during update, is there anything I can do to restore the data?

I just updated Thunderbird to v68, using automatic update. When the program restarted all the messages were missing from my inbox. Navigating to the relevant data file, I see that Inbox is 0KB and Inbox.msf is only 4KB. I assume that this means that the messages are lost for good... is there any way to retrieve the messages?

I have a backup from my last session but using that will mean I will have lost about 30 important unread messages from today's session... (pop3 settings are set to delete messages from server on download).

Thanks Matt - and apologies for late reply. No it didn't unfortunately. When I went to profile manager there were no profiles listed at all. It's ok - I'll revert to my previous backup and email my current clients to ask them to resend anything they've sent. Appreciate your help.

Did you see where I said to use the new profile wizard?

In Windows Windowskey + R Type %appdata%\Thunderbird\profiles and press enter.

This is the location Thunderbird stores profiles. Are there two folders in there?

Yes I used the new profile wizard. Point of clarification, I'm using the portable version, so the profiles are stored differently. But I navigated to the profile folder, used the wizard to set up a profile for each folder that was there (I have multiple email addresses coming into Thunderbird) in turn, and did the restarts but none resulted in the missing emails returning.

All good though - I've now overwritten the original install and files with my backup, so if the missing data was there somewhere, it probably isn't now! haha

But thanks for your help and efforts to help me solve the problem. The instructions were great.
