Using Firefox 63.0.3, some pages, particularly the "portfolio" page on the Bank of America site won't load. I've also had problems loading pages on Sam's club site.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

One issue that seems more common lately is Firefox's Tracking Protection feature. When it is blocking content in a page, a shield icon will appear at the left end of the address bar next to the padlock icon. This article has more info on managing this feature: Tracking Protection {web link}

The shield doesn't appear. Changing controls & permissions in Tracking Protection doesn't help. Starting in safe mode doesn't work either. I can access this and other pages that Firefox won't load on Safari and Chrome. If Firefox continues to be problematic, I'll probably switch to one of these and quit using Firefox. I'm getting tired of problems with Firefox.

Do you see any specific error messages in the Web Console?

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

The console gives me the following reasons for not loading the page (I've left out specific page info): The user agent has been overridden for compatibility reasons. Loading failed for the <script> with source ReferenceError: $jq is not defined

This isn't helpful to me. Instead of suffering with Firefox, I'll use a better browser.

Did you enable "Resist Fingerprinting" or are you using an extension to override the user agent?

When resist fingerprinting (RFP) is enabled then some items are spoofed (TimeZone: UTC, UserAgent: Firefox 60 ESR on Windows 7).

You can check this pref on the about:config page to see if resist fingerprinting (RFP) is enabled and if this pref is user set (bold) reset to false via the right-click context menu.

  • privacy.resistFingerprinting = false

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode. You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab. Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
